Dalgety Church E-pistle

The Next Week or so...  at Dalgety Church

This coming Sunday - 23 November

Morning Worship

Sunday Morning Worship will be at 9.30am and 11am. Worship will be led by Donald, Alasdair and Iain Mitchell, who will be preaching.  On Sunday we mark "Suffering Church Sunday", remembering and praying for the Christian Church in places where she is persecuted and suffering; we continue journeying with Abram who as we reach Genesis 17 will have his name changed to Abraham; and Sunday being the last Sunday before Advent is "Christ the King Sunday" - the themes will come together well, as they interact too with our stories.  All welcome.

Children's Ministry

Crèche meets in Room 3 for babies and toddlers.  Sunday School children are invited to gather in church at 11am and share in worship.  After the second song there will be an opportunity for children to leave for the various Sunday School Groups.

"Thinking Aloud"

Forth Churches Group

"Thinking Aloud"

·        When The Church’s view is quoted in the media, is that your view too?

·        Why don't all Christians hold the same opinions?

·        Who or what influences your opinions?

Thinking Aloud is an opportunity to explore a range of topics affecting our everyday lives where the Bible is silent or ambiguous or where its message is seen as irrelevant in modern times.

Thinking Aloud is aimed at all those whose faith journey includes doubts and unanswered questions and also those who are willing to share the answers they have found.

Thinking Aloud is monthly, starting on Thursday 27th November at 7.30pm

with “Bible Pic ‘n’ Mix”.

·        How much of the Bible do you believe in?

·       Which parts of the Bible is it okay to ignore?

Thinking Aloud is held at 6 Forth Reach, Dalgety Bay,
 Lesley Shaw  - 01383 824450

Keep Thursday 8th January free for topic number 2.

Sunday 30 November

Advent Sunday Worship - 10am

One service on the last Sunday of the month at 10am - on Advent Sunday, which this year also falls on St Andrew's Day.  On Advent Sunday the one of the Discoverers will light the  first of the advent candles...  and we'll be singing the great  Advent Hymn - O come, O come Emmanuel.

"Time to Remember" - 3pm

On Sunday 30th November at 3pm there will be the annual Time to Remember Service.  This is a quiet reflective service at which we take time to remember and give thanks for those we have loved and lost.  All are welcome.  Refreshments will be served after the service.

A Poem

A poem to amuse...  and to ponder..!

At Heaven's Door

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.
And why's everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one expected you.'

Preparing for Christmas

Christmas Fair

December 6th 10-12noon.  All Welcome.

Christmas Post

Once again, Dalgety Parish Church will be offering a Christmas card postal service for members of the congregation and residents of Dalgety Bay and Hillend.

A new postbox will be set up in the church’s Hall of Fellowship from Sunday 30 November until Sunday 21 December.  During that time, the church will be open to receive cards on weekday mornings from 9.30am to 12noon and also on Sunday mornings.

The suggested donation for the service is 18p per card, with the proceeds going towards the work of the Church. With a 1st class stamp costing 36p and a 2nd class stamp at 27p, this is a great way to save money.   An honesty box will be part of the postbox and donations should be placed in it.

Cards should be clearly addressed as normal - with name, address and post code.

We are appealing to members of the congregation for help to run the service.  Specifically, we need volunteers on some weekday mornings from 1 – 22 December, to help sort cards into streets.  If you feel you can spare an hour or so, on one or more mornings, that would be very helpful.

If you can help with sorting, please add your name to the list on the ‘Don’t Pass by Table’.  Thanks to all who have already done so.

Cards will be available for distribution each Sunday morning from 7 December and we would ask that people take a bundle of cards for their own street and deliver them to their neighbours during the week.  Please don't just extract your own!

Providing a community service like this is one way in which Dalgety Parish Church can be: “at the heart of the community, …with a heart for the community”.  What better way to show the hope and promise of Jesus by delivering a Christmas message?

Church Membership

Would you, or anyone you know, be interested in finding out more about Church Membership?  The minister hopes to have a service of admission of new communicants in the Spring of next year, and in preparation for this will arrange a series of meetings to explore what the Church is, why we might commit to gathering regularly for worship, why read the Bible and pray, and what it means to give of our time talents and money for the church's work in the world. If you would be interested please let the minister know on Sunday, drop him an email to donald@dalgety-church.co.uk, or phone 822316.
