Our projects for the 2016-2017 year ‘Go in Joy’ are:
Breaking the Cycle of FGM (Feed the Minds)
According to the World Health Organisation over 125 million girls and women across 29 countries, including Scotland, have been subjected to the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). By supporting this project we can help women and girls in Kenya to feel empowered to fight this horrendous practice. This means that they can stay in school and meet their God-given potential. FGM is seen as a rite of passage and is carried out on girls at the age of 12 – sometimes even younger. It can lead to severe problems and even death. Survivors tend to drop out of school, are married and give birth all before the age of 16. In the Kuria district of Kenya where Feed the Minds works it can be hard to combat FGM as there are a number of complicated social and cultural aspects.
Feed the Minds is an ecumenical Christian Charity founded in 1964 that works in partnership with grassroots partners to deliver educational projects that empower communities to combat the poverty and injustices across the Global South.
Haiti Project (Mission International)
The Haiti Project began in 2010 working with a local Christian church in the north eastern town of Ouanaminthe. The aim of the project is the construct a building that could be used as a school, community centre and church centre. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and has one of the worst literacy rates. Education is a priority for both children and adults to help them to build a better future and reach their full potential. This new building will help them to do this.
Mission International is a Christian missionary charity based in Dundee. It was started in 2006 in order to improve the material and spiritual lives of some of the poorest communities around the world. It’s vision is to be ambassadors for the poor around the world and to encourage as many people as possible in this country to help meet their needs.
